Max Steuer

Max Steuer (MA [Central European University], LLM [University of Cambridge], PhD [Comenius University]) is an interdisciplinary social scientist with a particular interest in democracy research. An Assistant Professor at the O.P. Jindal Global University, Jindal Global Law School and Research Collaborator at the Comenius University in Bratislava, Department of Political Science, his current projects focus, among others, on constitutional adjudication in a comparative perspective (with an emphasis on constitutional courts), freedom of expression, militant democracy and constitutionalism in the European Union. The results of his research appeared in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes in law, political science, sociology, and European studies. He has contributed to several Slovak and international research projects including EU3D (‘EU Differentiation, Dominance and Democracy’ funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme), PODATA (‘Politics of Personal Data: Transparency, Accountability and Legitimacy in the Digital Era’), JUDICON-EU ('Judicial Constraints on Legislation in Europe 1990-2020') and 'Cultural Expertise and Litigation in South Asia and Europe'. A member of several academic associations in political science and public law, such as the International Society of Public Law (ICON•S) and its Central and Eastern European Chapter, he was visiting researcher at academic institutions in Germany (WZB Berlin Social Science Center and European University Viadrina), Sweden (Örebro University), the UK (Centre for Socio-Legal Studies at the University of Oxford), and the USA (Washington State University as a Fulbright scholarship recipient).
