Jan Malíř

Jan Malíř graduated summa cum laude from the Charles University School of Law in Prague (Czech Republic) (2001) from which he also holds his JUDr. (2003) and PhD. (2009). He also attended courses at the Hague Academy of International Law (The Hague, Netherlands), Academy of European Law (Florence, Italy), the Institut international des droits de l´homme (Strasbourg, France), the Humboldt University (Berlin, Germany), the University Tor Vergata (Rome, Italy) and the Central European University (Budapest, Hungary). In 2001-2007, he worked as an analyst at the Department for Compatibility with EU Law at the Czech Cabinet Office. Since 2007, he has been a full-time research fellow at the Institute of State and Law of the Czech Academy of Sciences. In 2007 – 2018, he also taught selected legal courses at the Metropolitan University in Prague and the University of Hradec Kralove. Since 2015, he has been a member of the Commission for EU Law at the Legislative Council of the Cabinet, an advisory body to the Czech Cabinet (Prague). Moreover, he is a member of the Editorial Board of “The Lawyear Quarterly” published by the Institute of State and Law of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ISSN: 1805-840X), PhD. Advisory Committee (public international law) at the Charles University Faculty of Law (Prague), the Steering Committee of the Centre français de recherche en sciences sociales (Prague), the Association des amis de la Fondation René Cassin (Strasbourg, France) and the Czech Society of International Law (Prague). In the past, he was a visiting scholar at the Institute of State and Law of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Warsaw, Poland), the Institut international des droits de l´Homme (Strasbourg, France) and the University of Vienna Law School (Vienna, Austria). In 2010, he was awarded the Otto Wichterle Prize by the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Jan Malíř has authored or co-authored some 16 monographs and more than 60 articles, reports and book reviews focused on EU law, comparative constitutional law and selected issues of public international law. In the recent years, he has especially focused on law & politics issues.
